Straw Bales
All the rooms have been built with straw bales to provide natural insulation
throughout the seasons. Using local straw bales and supported with wood
certified by the Forest Steward Council with absolutely no use of chemical glues.
Green Roof
The hotel has a green roof, which reduces the need for air conditioning in the
summer and as a result reduces CO2. Contributes to local biodiversity and
filters pollutants and CO2 out of the air
Natural Plasters
The plaster used on the straw bale construction is a mixture of clay, sand and
straw with no chemical products.
Natural paints
All our paints are produced using natural products and do not use any
chemical products. The outside of the building is painted with a natural lime
linseed oil and egg white mix to assist with sealing against water penetration.
Geothermal Heating and Cooling
The under-floor geothermal system uses the earth’s thermal properties to heat
and cool the hotel with unprecedented efficiency. The impact of installing a
geothermal system to an ordinary home is the equivalent of saving 10 tonnes
of coal per year or the equivalent to planting 750 trees per year.
